Frequently Asked Questions

Sanitizer has always been available throughout the store for customer use. If you wish to handle a bird, we insist that you have clean hands. You will either need to use the available sanitizer or use the restroom to wash your hands. If you are unwilling to do either, then you will not be able to handle a bird. Even if you use your own sanitizer before you enter the store, you have most likely touched other surfaces without realizing it. For this reason, we require you to use sanitizer before touching any bird.

No. The H5N1 bird flu has been detected in some cattle and backyard poultry flocks, but has not been found in any pet stores in Arizona. There was a brief issue at the Wildlife World Zoo in the West Valley, where a few mammals and birds, along with a staff member, were infected. According to the most recent information provided by the Maricopa County Health Department, it has not been detected in pet stores or parrots in Arizona.

The county health department advises that you not touch any dead birds you may find outside. If you are concerned for the safety of your parrots, do not take them outside where they may be exposed to wild birds.

We’re really committed to keeping our space safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone—our customers, employees, and all the feathered friends who visit us. To ensure a healthy environment, we disinfect every cage and food dish used by our birds every single day. However, we can only control what happens within our facility. To help keep our store healthy and prevent any illnesses from spreading between our birds and customers, we require that all birds undergo a yearly wellness exam. Birds are well known for hiding an illness, and by the time you notice a bird is unwell, it might be too late to help them. Veterinarians are experts at spotting diseases early, so this yearly exam gives us an extra line of defense against illnesses entering our facility.

We are not trained in veterinary care, so it’s best to seek professional help. While it was once possible to purchase simple antibiotics for birds, many of those products are no longer available or can only be obtained from a veterinarian’s office. We recommend the Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital, which you can find at the link below.

We receive many requests for them, but we do not collect, hold, or sell feathers.

We do not ship birds. We want our customers to meet their feathered friends in person so they can make the perfect choice. Tropic Zone deposits are non-refundable, so we would never ship a bird to an owner if there is a possibility it might not meet their expectations. For that reason, we will never ship a bird.

Absolutely. Call us and let us know what you need. We'll get it together and call you back with a total, including shipping if necessary. We will hold it for you so you can pick it up at your convenience. You can send an Uber to pick it up, or we can ship it in a small/medium/large USPS flat-rate postage box. We can ship you food, toys, treats, or anything else within reason - but we DO NOT ship birds.

For large items like cages, tree stands, and 20 lb bags of seed, it's better to purchase them in person, as the cost of shipping would be insanely expensive.
